Adaptation of American training materials for Japanese readers

    Training material related to financial advisors in the United States were to be translated, but TOIN's project manager determined that simply translating them would not make sense in Japan.

  • Solution & result

    When checking the source documents, TOIN's project manager noticed that there were many sections that referred to US financial laws and commercial customs, and so simply translating the material would not make the training materials applicable in Japan. As a result, parts that were to be translated and new parts to be created (in Japanese) were determined. The newly created parts incorporated examples that were familiar to Japanese people, and the aim was to create a training material that was easily understood by Japanese people. Further, using a CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tool for the translated parts enabled the customer to reduce costs.
