In May 2020, the 15th year since the company was founded, about 130 Vietnamese fellows joined EXTREME Co., Ltd. Mainly engaged in accounting operations related to contract development projects. Recently, more weight is given to management work related to accounting of overseas subsidiaries.

■ Translation in English, Vietnamese and Japanese is essentially demanded in every situation
―　In what situation do you need translation?

Mr. Tateno: Our group has a subsidiary in Vietnam and we are communicating with them mainly in English. Frequently, we need to prepare documents in 3 versions, English, Vietnamese and Japanese, and we need to do translation.

We are also engaged in licensing out our intellectual properties such as games to foreign countries. That means translation is required in a wide range of situations, such as in liaison with the companies to which we have licensed, contract-related work, and trademark management.

■ Concerns about security when using a free tool
―　How was translation work handled before AN-ZIN was introduced?

Mr. Tateno: Before introducing AN-ZIN, we often used free translation systems available on the Internet.

But we couldn’t translate on a file basis, and even if we could, they would not guarantee the security. So we had to spend much time for translation.

■ Accelerated translation of contracts by using AN-ZIN, followed by expert’s review
―　How has AN-ZIN changed the way you work?

Mr. Tateno: Of course, free translation tools are not allowed for practical translation of contract documents, so we would contact specialized translation agencies whenever translation was necessary. Even now, the final review is done by such agencies. But we can use AN-ZIN to prepare a certain level of translation before the expert’s review. Therefore, the review time has been greatly reduced now.

■ Fluent translation possible to be used on a daily basis
―　How do you feel using AN-ZIN?

Mr. Tateno:There is nothing particularly difficult to use.

In previous versions, when translating from Japanese to Vietnamese, we had to first translate from Japanese to English. Now I feel it is very convenient because it has been improved so that Japanese to Vietnamese translation is also possible directly. It is also attractive that PDF files can be translated.

Daily emails can also be translated fluently, so we use the tool frequently.

Compared to the free translation tools we used before, it has advantages that it can translate files and there are no security concerns.

■ Low price and high quality are key points
―　What key points made you decide to introduce AN-ZIN?

Mr. Tateno: AN-ZIN brings a lot of benefits to our business site. Another point is that we can ensure the quality of translation and security at a low price.

■ Can be used immediately as a cloud service
―　Did you have any challenges when introducing AN-ZIN?

Mr. Tateno: Nothing in particular. No initial cost was incurred, and we could immediately introduce AN-ZIN as a cloud service. So we were encouraged to start anyway.

Typically, tools such as workflow systems, sales management, and business card management have been accumulating the company’s information assets and therefore cannot be changed easily once introduced. However, AN-ZIN differs from these types of tools, so the process to make a decision was quick.

We can choose to stop using if it doesn’t suit our purpose.

■ Affinity of translation and AI
―　What was your opinion about AI Translation in general?

Mr. Tateno:We had no particular concern or negative opinion. Though it may be difficult to define what is an essential element of AI, I think deep learning will be its base. In that sense, translation may have a high affinity with AI.

■ Helps telework improve work efficiency
―　Were there any changes in your work after introducing AN-ZIN?

Mr. Tateno:AI translation seems to be learning gradually how to handle specific terminologies smoothly. In the past, we had another round of translation after the machine translation. Now we can save time and the work flow has been improved.

In terms of how to work, we can utilize the service in a Web browser anytime, anywhere, without having to install software on a PC. So I think it perfectly matches telework.
