TOIN’s Engagement with Machine Translation

TOIN has been working on machine translation since the early 1980s when its development began in Japan. At the request of Professor Makoto Nagao (former President of Kyoto University), a leading authority in machine translation, TOIN participated in the "Mu Project", established a department mainly for language study, and provided dictionaries to translation system manufacturers.

TOIN's contribution to machine translation at that time is archived in detail in an article published by the Japan Translation Federation (Japanese).

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation has also been participating as a member of the Board of Directors for the purpose of introducing machine translation and providing translation services to customers, striving to promote machine translation.
